Advantages and disadvantages of reverse osmosis water purifiers

Reverse osmosis water purifiers are widely known in the developed world. In Bangladesh, the popularity of reverse osmosis water purification machines is increasing day by day. Reverse osmosis is basically a type of water purification process that works to purify water to the highest level. Depending on the place, even after boiling water for many times, many harmful substances remain in it, which are harmful to our human body. In this water purification system, water can be completely purified without applying any heat. After purifying water in this process, there are no unnecessary minerals in the water, which helps us stay healthy.

How does reverse osmosis purifier work?

Water is purified in this method in six steps. These steps are basically completed in 3 parts. These three working processes are:-
The reverse process of osmosis

Generally, water flows naturally from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration. This process is called osmosis. In reverse osmosis, this process is reversed. Again, by applying pressure, water flows from high density to low density through a dense screen.
Semipermeable membrane

This membrane plays a special role in water filtration. The membrane in the filter has very fine pores that allow pure water molecules to pass through the pores of the membrane. But large water particles containing pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, and mineral salts cannot pass through these pores. As a result, the highest level of water filtration occurs from here.
Pressure application

When water is purified through a reverse osmosis filter, contaminated water is given to one side of the membrane and high pressure is applied to the other side. As a result of this pressure, water molecules are filtered through the pores of the membrane and pass to the other side, and the pollutants are trapped in the membrane. In this way, the pollutants are separated from the contaminated water through the filter and purified.

Processing system of RO water purifier

  1. Cold Water Line Valve: This valve has a tube that serves as the water source for the reverse osmosis purifier.
  2. Pre-filter: Water from the cold water line first enters this pre-filter. The pre-filter removes dust, sand, and dirt from this water and protects the RO membrane. A reverse osmosis system can have multiple pre-filters.
  3. Reverse Osmosis Membrane: The reverse osmosis membrane is the main part of this system. It removes all kinds of contaminants from the water. Then this water goes to a pressurized storage tank and is stored.
  4. Storage Tank: This storage tank can usually hold 2 to 4 gallons of water. A bladder presses the water when the tank is full.
  5. Post Filter: After the water comes out of the storage tank, it finally passes through this post filter. This is a type of carbon filter. It finally removes all the remaining harmful substances in the water.
  6. Automatic Shut Off Valve: After the storage tank is full, the automatic shut off valve automatically closes the water inlet to the membrane.
  7. Check Valve: There is a check valve at the end of the RO Membrane that stops the reverse flow of pure water from the RO storage tank.
  8. Flow Restrictor: There is a flow restrictor in the RO drain line tube to properly control the flow of water.
  9. Faucet: The reverse osmosis water purifier has its own water faucet from which pure water comes out.
  10. Drain Line: Contaminants and water come out through this path.

Reverse osmosis water purifier is an internationally recognized water purification process. It is an ISO 9001:2008 certified system. So you can definitely adopt this water purification process. Advantages and disadvantages of reverse osmosis water filters

Reverse osmosis (RO) water purifiers are currently a popular method of water purification. It removes various types of pollutants, such as bacteria, viruses, mineral salts, and other harmful elements from water. However, along with its advantages, there are also some disadvantages.

Advantages

  • RO purifiers remove almost all types of pollutants from water, thus ensuring maximum purity of water.
  • Purifying water with the help of this filter removes all the pollutants and harmful substances present in the water, so the water does not have a specific taste.
  • Drinking pure water is beneficial for everyone's health. It helps reduce the risk of various diseases in the body.
  • Reverse osmosis water purifiers are very easy to use. Everyone from young to old can use this water purification machine.
  • A good quality RO purifier machine can be used for a long time.

Disadvantages

  • A lot of water is wasted when purifying water through the reverse osmosis water purifier process. If the amount of contaminants in the water is high, then the water will be wasted in large quantities.
  • Since purifying water through an RO filter removes all the elements or minerals in the water, some people may experience slight deficiencies in their bodies.
  • The price of this type of water purification machine is slightly higher than the price of other machines. If a defect occurs, its repair cost may also be higher.
  • Electricity is required to run this purifier machine, which also consumes electricity.
  •

When should you use an RO purifier?

  • Reverse osmosis water purifier machines should be used, especially in areas where the water quality is very poor or the proportion of pollutants in the water is high.
  • Reverse osmosis water filters should be used for families where there are people in the family who have problems with direct drinking water.
  • Drinking pure water is important for every person. It is especially important to ensure pure drinking water for children and the elderly. Reverse osmosis water purifiers can be used for this.

Caution

RO purifier is a good method for purifying water. However, it may not be suitable for everyone. Before buying a purifier, you should consider the quality of the water in your area and your own needs. Even if you use an RO purifier, the water may lack some minerals, so you need to eat healthy food to make up for this deficiency.
